One Happy Dog has a variety of classes ranging from training foundations to sport-specific behaviors. To help you better navigate our offerings, we’ve broken down our offerings by themes to help you better understand what’s part of each class. Click on the links to learn more about the classes and add them to your cart. Some courses maybe present in multiple sections.

Trainer Skills

These courses focus on the fundamentals required for all trainers from pet dogs to high level performance trainers. These skills are applicable for the trainer leading classes or one-on-ones to those looking to improve training their own dog. They are also applicable across species for any type of animal trainer.

The Basics – A survey style course designed to lay out the basics. Covers criteria, reinforcement, timing, getting behaviors, fluency, and sequencing.
Fluency – How to build behavior and keep it strong in a variety of settings.
Criteria – Defining and maintaining behavior criteria
Engagement – Getting and keeping a dogs attention and preparing them to work.
Intervals – How to get strong behaviors for a long period of time. Course focused on obedience skills, but applicable for anyone looking to increase time of work before reward.
Cueing – How to get a behavior, add a cue and gain stimulus control of your cue.

General Dog Skills

These courses focus on general dog foundation behaviors, both for ring performances and general life skills.

Engagement – Getting and keeping a dogs attention and preparing them to work.
Recalls – Developing reliable recalls from the ground up.
Socialization – How to properly socialize dogs, geared at sport dogs, but valuable for any dog who will be asked to focus out in public.
Retrieves – How to get a retrieve behavior from the ground up. Applicable for all types of retrieves (service dog, hunt test, obedience, etc)
StaysSeminar-style course. How to build a solid stay behavior (note: this class was originally designed as a competition course, but the information is applicable to all dogs)

Competition Obedience Specific Skills

These courses focus on developing the skills needed to succeed in competition obedience with a focus on AKC obedience.

Engagement – Getting and keeping the dog’s attention and preparing them to work.
Heeling FoundationsSeminar-style course. One of the hardest skills in obedience, this seminar teaches you how to build strong heeling behaviors from the ground up. It also covers handler footwork.
Fluency/Proofing – A course offering training ideas for building fluency (proofing) in your obedience behaviors.
Polished Performance I – Focusing on improving your ring performances covering engagement, ring entrances, heeling, and stays.
Polished Performance II – Focusing on improving your ring performances covering heeling, fronts and finishes, stays and exams, and drop on recall.
Socialization – How to properly socialize dogs, geared at sport dogs, but valuable for any dog who will be asked to focus out in public.
Intervals – How to get strong behaviors for a long period of time. The course is focused on obedience skills, but applicable for anyone looking to increase the time of work before the reward.
Go Outs – Building a go out and turn/sit behavior from the ground up.
Brilliant Heeling Bootcamp – Designed to help those with dogs who already know heeling to increase precision.
Retrieves – How to get a retrieve behavior from the ground up. Applicable across retrieving sports.
Novice/Open Skils – Covers what you need for novice/open including heeling, stand for exam, recalls, retrieves, and stays (note: this class does not cover the changes to stays and command discrimination)
Open/Utility Skills – Covers what you need in the open/utility rings including heeling, signals, drop on recall, moving stand for exam, retrieves, jumping, fronts and finishes, and more (note: this class does not cover the changes to stays and command discrimination)
StaysSeminar-style course. Covers how to build a solid stay using play (note: this class was designed under the old obedience stay regulations so some requirements may no longer be accurate)

Scent Work Specific Skills

These courses focus on developing skills needed to succeed in scent work.

Foundations – This course lays the foundations, teaching dogs to search for odor from day one. This is the starting point for all dogs not on odor.
Foundation SeminarSeminar style course. This seminar covers how to get dog started on odor and is a great starting point. This seminar offers more examples of how to work through specific problems and maybe more applicable to trainers who teach classes.
Socialization – How to properly socialize dogs, geared at sport dogs, but valuable for any dog who will be asked to focus out in public.
Working through Distractions – A course offering training ideas for building fluency (proofing) in your scent work.
Clarifying Alerts – Designed to help increase your alerts and stay at source behaviors.
Element Searches – Getting your dog started on element searches. Covers interiors, exteriors, vehicles, and containers.
Small Dog Specific – Small dogs have specific challenges in the scent work game. This course covers specifics to working with small dogs.
Elite Searches – Focusing on how to work through Elite style searches where odor can be anywhere.
Indications – This course builds on your dog’s ability to ID and alert to odor, making your alerts stronger.
Hide Placement – Learn how to place hides to teach your dog the skills you need.
ContainersSeminar style course. Containers are one of the most failed elements. This seminar demonstrates how to increase your dog’s confidence searching containers.
